It’s yet another dark, dreary morning. I wonder why the nights aren’t endless. Then the sinister mornings wouldn’t return. These gloomy mornings remind me of my vulnerabilities, and give me no choice but to face this loveless world squarely; everyday.

Oh! It’s almost 7:30 A.M. and I’m late for work again. No time for breakfast, but I’ll throw in a quick sandwich.
I pull out two slices and I lay them on the board. A pair of bright eyes and a wide, smiling mouth stare back at me. Oh wait! Is it a heart?

Well, that’s a sign. Maybe, there’s hope…

  1. Hey Natasha! Loved the way you wrote this one. It felt like a diary…felt sad for the protagonist at the start but so glad it ended on a hopeful and optimistic note. Keep writing! Cheers!

  2. You conjure up a picture of someone struggling with depression. It’s encouraging that she was able to interpret the hole in the bread in a positive way, as it shows she has the potential to see the good and the hopeful, which gives her a chance of healing.
    Nice word painting.

  3. I have absolutely been loving this Friday Fiction photo prompts!

As opposed to the sunshine value of things, it’s refreshing to read a tale featuring someone who finds hope in the dark!

  4. Sometimes we are so aimless that we don’t feel ab urge to face morning to repeat the same process of life.
But as they say there’s always s morning to every night and always happy moments with sad ones . So look forward to glorious and sunshine mornings 🙂

  5. Great story, Natasha . Love, even its sign , does make us think hope. I wish her well. With hope , may she look forward to glorious mornings.

    1. I’m so glad you noticed that Iain. That was the whole idea behind the story. Her preference for the darkness and plunging herself in all things dark and not seeing any hope whatsoever, at all.
Hopefully there seems to be a streak of hope shining in her life now.
