“We found him on the porch. It’s broken a wing,” said the DH, almost thrusting a Mynah on my face.

The nine-year-old piped in, “Mamma, isn’t he handsome as hell? Can we keep him, pleaseeeee.”

“I’d love to darling, but you know Gran is Orinthophobic, don’t you!”

“Orintho…what?”

“She has a fear of birds.”

“But Mamma, he can stay upstairs in my room”

“First things first my girl; let’s help restore this little guy,” said the DH.

“Oh so you mean we can keep him, Dad? Gee thanks!”

“My lips are sealed, hun,” he said, looking at me with that cheesy grin.

    1. I know the feeling. It’s my husband who mostly says the no, usually. LOL! Btw tried commenting on your story, but no luck with Disqus. So here’s my comment:

Shocking twist to the tale. But I guess there are many who have to go through this cruel fate of destiny. Nicely done Sunita.

  1. Doesn’t this happen in most households? There has to be at least one family member who has some problem with keeping a pet. Poor kid, I hope he/she gets to keep it.

    1. Hello Christine:)
Actually they will probably help revive it back to good health. But I also do know what you are saying. I’ve resuced birds in the past with my little girl, but none of them survived. So yeah the possibility of going in that direction always remains. Unfortunately 🙁

    1. Haven’t we all done that! I bought a puppy too that too when my older girl was 6 or so. We hid it in my room and it started whimpering and wailing middle of the night. My parents got really upset and turned the poor thing out. Sigh! 🙁
