The mighty herd crosses our paths.

The first herd of elephants we sighted at Tarangire, Tanzania. It was a moment of a lifetime

The Mighty Tusker. Do you see his mate in the corner?

Watching this massive herd at Serengeti was nothing short of mesmerising!

  1. This is fantastic. The more you share your fab posts on Tanzania the more my desire to go deepens.

You just want the moment to never end; awestruck with the diverse, untamed beauty of God’s creations, be it landscape or the wild life. Splendid videos and photos Natasha. Yeh dil maangey more posts from your trip………

My memory of elephants have been as a child when they would appear close to Ganesh puja and one could take a short ride….. and that cardboard was made out of their poop hahahahah. There are many places where they offer elephant ride commercially…… somehow we are not comfortable with it as most are not treated well by their owners.

Then yes during our trips to Kerala. In fact, in Munnar, on our way to Anayirankal Dam we were stopped by the forest rangers as a herd of wild elephants were around the corner. We saw them from far.

I find their products quite cute Haathi Chaap https://elephantpoopaper.com/

  2. Being in Kerala, have had the luxury of seeing Indian elephants up close, mostly in temples but also walking down the street on odd occasions. I realize now how normal that is for us but how weird it must sound for people from other European and American nations 😀

  3. Natasha, Do you mean to tell me you were in that car watching the herd of elephants and those adorable baby elephants? WOW! Don’t know if I would have the nerve to do something like that, but thanks for taking the video and making me feel I was sitting right next to you squeezing your hand and yelling PROTECT ME…. HOLY COW!!!! LOOK AT THAT!!!! DANG GIRL!!! HAHAHAHA!!!! Thanks for sharing that was awesome to say the least! You live a very exciting life to say the least! WOW!

    1. Ha! Ha! I wish it was even more exciting than it is. But I make sure to get my dose of adventure when I travel.
I love adventure. And one can get a lot of it, living close to nature.

  4. Love the incredible photos of the elephants, Natasha. They are such magnificent creatures, aren’t they!

I’m a little scared of them though. Once, when we walked past an elephant camp, one of them threw a tree branch at us with its trunk! It didn’t look too happy to see us! Elephants can be quite malicious, we were told!

    1. Yes, they have both sides to them. Calm yet ferocious when they feel threatened, like many other animals in the wild especially.

I had one such experience in an elephant camp that you reminded me of. Though these weren’t wild elephants. There was this baby elephant across the other side of the wall, tossing and turning its trunk, in a friendly manner. He looked so adorable that I tried to pet his trunk.
And the next thing I knew was he had flung my hand away. Fortunately it wasn’t a bad bruise, but it definitely was one on my arm. I guess I took it lightly, as I love animals too much.
But its better to be careful of course.

At my work space, in the forests of Central India, we have had our safari jeeps being chased by tuskers!

How are you doing Veronica? Whats brewing in your neck of woods. 🙂

      1. When I was young (you were probably in diapers then!), I was really into this movie “Haati Mere Saathi”(हाथी मेरे साथी). It was a hit in my small hometown and I recall the movie running in the cinemas for more than 3 months!

I am good, Natasha. Keeping my fingers crossed but I think we appeared to have flattened the curve. Many restrictions have been lifted and restaurants are now open for dine-ins again!

        1. Ha! Ha! What are the chances, wow! Veronica. Yes it was quite a hit movie and I cried watching it. It came out a year before I was born.

How are things now? Good to know KL managed to flatten the curve. Things are a bit grave here. But this too shall pass.

  5. Fascinating herd, Natasha. We love these impurressive creatures, they take so good care of each other. Granny had an elephant puppet to go to sleep with when she was littlePawkisses for a wonderful day

  6. Beautiful pictures of the majestic beauty.
This reminded me of the glimpses I had while going to Mysuru via Bandipur forest.
It was a surprise to have it on the road when we had to just keep silent with engines off till the majesty moves back inside the forest again.
Thanks for sharing this awesome video too.

  7. Elephants are truly majestic animals. I had the opportunity to ride one in the Kaziranga National Park on a rhino spotting expedition when I was 9. At that age what made it a memorable experience was the young calf trodding beside his mother, the elephant my family was seated on.

    1. Yes, the elephant calves are so very endearing to watch. I remember doing one such ride in Kaziranga too, Anu.

The forest department is now gradually doing away these rides. To avoid any form of cruelty to these animals. Not sure if the rides at Kaziranga are still on.
Mine was also when I was about 26 years old. 🙂

  8. Superb photos!
Elephants impress me with the fact that they are the only animals (?) That mourn their dead.
    Thanks for sharing!

  9. I have a collection of small elephants. I like them a lot.
Very special creatures. Thank you for these images and ideas about them.
All the best, dear Natasha! Happy WW!

  10. Such beautiful shots of a magnificent animals. The video was so lovely. Thanks for sharing this. Very nice. Thanks for hosting and I hope that you and your family are safe and healthy.
