“I think the most important quality in a birdwatcher is a willingness to stand quietly and see what comes. Our everyday lives obscure a truth about existence – that at the heart of everything there lies a stillness and a light.” ― Lynn Thomson, Birding with Yeats: A Mother’s Memoir
“Autumn shows us how beautiful it is to let go of things.” – Unknown
On a Silent Trail: The Sanctuary Kenneth & Dorothy Stiffle “Non fatuum huc persecutus ignem” Latin translation : “it is no will-o’-the-wisp that I have followed here.”
“Flowers are the music of the ground… From Earth’s lips spoken without sound.” – Anonymous The Night Jasmines or Shiuli/ Harsingar/Parijat as they are called in India, have once again made an unfettered come back. Night Jasmines herald the arrival of autumn, as they lie casually strewn across the ground beneath their modest tree. A tree that in all possibility would go unnoticed, if not for the fragrant, intoxicating prettiness that caresses the ground beneath. In my scheme of all…
Spring Vignettes Here are a few beautiful lines from my all time favourite writer, Khalil Gibran (1883-1931), whose writings have given me solace even as a youngster. I have recently been reading a compilation of his verses called “The Little Book of Life” by Neil Douglas Klotz. You may want to read it, if you are a fan like me. Or, if you have never read him before, but would like to dive in to an…

#FridayFotoFiction: #Week8 BARREN A vacuous air of silence had enveloped Deerwood drive. The benches were lying barren. Not a bird in sight, let alone people. A disaster had befallen upon this lovely clearing. A bunch of cold hearted miscreants had ruthlessly massacred the visitors of this park-octogenarians, children, lovers, joggers, dogs and their walkers and many others. This ironically happened on a bright, sunny day. Now all that remained was a crestfallen, silent and deserted Autumn patch. No gleeful children,…
#FridayFotoFiction Arrive The Winter chills were yet to arrive, as Autumn had long extended it’s stay. Long walks with Layika, as the weather romanticised with all and sundry, formed an integral part of her morning ritual. Today the alarm didn’t go off. She had scrambled out of bed, quickly changed and rushed out with Lyaika on the leash, and in a jiffy left the keys hanging outside. As she walked out of her doorsteps inhaling the fragrant morning air, while Lyaika sniffed the dew drizzled grass, a…
This morning as I walked back from pilate class I was greeted by my favourite flowers- Shiuli/Harsingaar/Night Jasmine. Each year they arrive precisely around the time autumn begins to set in and disappear with the onset of winters. So they are our fleeting guests for a month and a half. But it goes without saying that they leave an indelible mark in my heart and I look forward to their arrival with much anticipation. Many of you I’m guessing know…
