When the Going Gets Tough, The Tough Get Going:#MondayMusings
“When the going gets tough, the tough get going.” – Joseph P. Kennedy (1888-1969)
These beautiful lines by Joseph P. Kennedy, Father of U.S. President John F.Kennedy, has been my mantra for life, for the longest I can even remember. Probably way back when I was in school. This quote speaks volumes, in such less words.
Life will keep challenging us every iota of a second, but we have to keep enduring and remaining strong, irrespective. Sometimes the curve balls just don’t cease, but then instead of wallowing in self-pity and questioning the challenging situation, keep at it. Never for once bow down to the challenges. Instead of questioning them with a, “Why me?” Look them straight in the eye with a, “Try me!” Rest assured you will be equipped to handle any given situation with immense courage and fortitude.
Probably you have guessed that I write this all out of sheer experience. Yes, I totally do. It’s been testing times for me the last couple of months. And as much as I would have loved the year to have started on a positive, vibrant note with less things to worry about and more things to plan and work upon, it hasn’t been so. I wish I was writing a more fulfilling, happy post, but this morning when I sat down to write my favourite #MondayMusings, I drew blanks. I then realised my mind-space needed de-cluttering and what better way to do so, then by expressing it through my words.
So yes, it’s been an arduous couple of months, but I know the sun will shine upon me for sure. After all this very life is so beautiful, so precious and so blessed. There are way too many blessings that surround me at this point of time, to let the challenges deter me. I’m stronger than I know. When we believe we can, we actually can. So here’s being immensely grateful for the countless blessings and wishing all those worries and troubles away. Nothing lasts forever, so neither will the troubles for sure. On that note, I will ruminate and energise myself with a small free-flowing verse.
Tough times don’t last, tough people do.
Stand steadfast,
And life’s sure to get your back.
Cherish your glorious days, for all is not lost.
The clouds of grey, will come and go.
Hold on to hope
Hold on to love
Hold on to your blessings
Hold on to life precious
For life will eventually turn around.
And the sun will rise in your backyard.

It’s easy to stay upbeat when things are going great, but it’s more challenging to remain optimistic in the face of adversity. Which is why I love your attitude. I hope things turn around for you soon. Sending lots of positive thoughts and vibes your way.
Thank you so much for all the positive vibes Shanaya. They are working 🙂
Saying Try me instead of a Why me gives an empowering feeling. I hope the sun comes out shinier in your backyard and it happens soon.
Thank you so much dear Anamika. 🙂
Natasha, this quote has been one of my favourites since my childhood days. Tough Times come to test our endurance and perseverance. Facing them headon and staring them in the face scares them off. You are a brave girl and can come out a stronger and wiser person once you have braved the storms. This too shall pass, here’s wishing you all the luck in the world.
Thank you dear Sulekha. Endurance is the key. The only sure shot to success.
Your words are very comforting.
Hugs and I wish things look up North for you. I loved your attitude and how you are looking at life. That’s the best way to go about it.
btw – I have a post with that exact same title 🙂 but it was about a different topic.
Parul, thank you so much. <3 Please tag me in that post. Would love to read it.
Hugs to you, Natasha! You are a tough girl, so I know you will face it all bravely. The sun will shine again, pretty soon!
Every word in your post resonates with me. Believing in ourselves and our capabilities will solve half of our problems..I so believe in the power of the words you began your post with!
You are such a sweetheart Shilpa. Thank you so very much. <3
Oh yes, sometimes I too go Try Me. Feela more powerful that way. You are a survivor and I am sure you will only emerge victorious with such positivity . Take care Natasha .
Yes, the TRY ME mantra is so very powerful. Thank you dear Raj. <3
Very powerful, where u write about the shift in mindset from ‘why me’ to ‘try me’…
And the sunshine will be back to dispel the Greys and to gather you in a warm embrace…just keep the faith
Oh, yes, totally. Your words always give me lot of solace. Susmita. <3 Gratitude.
Just what I wanted to read Natasha ! Thank you for penning this ! Cheers
Oh, I’m so glad this resonated with you Meha. More power to you. Keep that pretty chin up!
Very inspiring and you are on the right track, Natasha! Life doesn’t always go the way we expect her to, but unless there are downs, how will we recognize and appreciate the ups?
Here’s wishing you a series of ups!
I love the song When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough Get Going –starring Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner and Danny de Vito –sung by Billy Ocean from the movie Jewel of the Nile. Have you heard it?
Oh, yes, I have heard the song. Was planning to put the video link here too. Now that you mention it, I will.
Yes, the joys have so much more meaning because we have treaded the sorrows.
Thank you Vidya for your kind words.
