K is for Kaali
Kaali is one of the Goddess, I revere. Dark, foreboding like the amavasya (new moon) night, yet compassionate and powerful like any other goddess.
She walks quietly into my life and makes her presence felt, especially on days I need motivation. The other morning, I was sitting under a neem tree journaling. She made her presence felt, in her most wholesome form.
I was thinking of Kaali, when I woke up. You ask, and the universe gives!
Kaali
Her gentle strides, a quiet, still presence and that awkwardly wagging tail; fills me up with awe. Kaali is the dog, who is my goddess. Our community Goddess, if I may say so. Literally!
I’ve never liked the term stray dogs and animals, and I encourage you to also refrain from using the same. Opt for community animal/s, please.
My ancestors worshipped Kaali, the goddess (see the feature image), and I do too. The only difference; I worship both Kaali the goddess and Kaali, the doggess.
Kaali, the doggess has lived in our condo for over thirteen years now, and I believe she is about fifteen or fourteen years young. When she first arrived, she was petrified and fearful of any human contact. I named her Kaali for her jet black coat. She sired two pups. One we got adopted, the other didn’t make it.

She receives a lot of flak and hate from many humans here. Yet, she continues to thrive, amidst the love she receives from a few others.
Kaali mostly stays by the club house, near the main gate, guarding the space and the humans, unbeknownst to them.
Many attempts to have her leave, or be sent off; have gone in vain. She came for a purpose and she guards the land. It’s as much hers, as others, she tells me often.
As I stroke Kaali, on this crisp spring morning, she says, “My heart hurts. I miss Sheroo.” (her companion who passed over last year).
I stroke her and give her chest some reiki healing.
“Thank you, and also for the yummy hot morning meals, everyday; and the fat, juicy bones,” she says, as I listen attentively.
“It’s the least we can do for you, Kaali,” I tell her gently.
“I love you,” she says. “Me too.”
Our gaze lock together.
My heart is full. I go back to journaling, amidst the wispy breeze, under the dancing neem tree. Kaali saunters away, back to her spot by the main gate.
Till we meet, another day for our tête-à-tête.

I am participating in the April Blogging from A to Z Challenge 2026, and my theme is Nature’s Voice – Notes from Nature.
As a Telepathic Animal & Nature Communicator, and an avid nature lover, I receive plenty of messages and downloads from the animal and plant world, landscapes, water bodies, as well as aquatic life. I shall take you through a fascinating journey, where we shall connect and communicate with all things non-human, but as a humans. Together, we shall also appreciate nature’s offerings.
Telepathic Animal & Nature communication is an intuitive, two way exchange of information through words, emotions, feelings and images between humans and other species/nature. This transcends the barrier of a verbal dialogue and language, helping humans understand animals, nature (trees, landscapes, water bodies) and foster deeper connections. A professional Animal and Nature communicator is also known as an Animal and Nature Whisperer.

Kaali is such a sweetheart, the way you describe her and your communication with her shows how close she is, to your heart! May it always be this way with the rest of the community folks too!

I remember once you chided me for calling stray cat. You had explained why I should call them community cats. I once had a pet, a black indie, we used to call her Kali. I miss her so much, even after almost 20+ years. Lovely heartwarming post. On a different note, I am proud of you for completing 12 posts. You have completed almost half of it. You can do it, darling!
Your Kali is precious, always in your heart. 🙂
I could, but I know it will be pushing it a bit too much, so will space it out. And do what I can given the travels and wedding etc. Will finish them later in May, if that happens. Minus pressure! I’m also enjoying curating these experiences too. 🙂
