Balanced Flow: #WordOfTheYear | #WOTY2022
“Be still like a mountain and flow like a great river.”
– Lao Tzu
Balance (noun) – “Stability found at the centre of acceptance.”
Balanced Flow: Word of The Year
I was sitting under an ancient Harad tree in Pachmarhi, early last month. Harad translates to Haritaki in Sanskrit or Terminalia chebula in English, King of all medicinal plants. Therefore, I am not wee bit surprised that my Word of the Year (WOTY) – Balanced appeared in the aura of my being, under the grandeur of this tree.
I basked in the warmth of the cheery sunshine, under the grand Harad tree on that cold December morning, doing absolutely nothing. The avian-wonders like Prinias, Tickle Blue Fly Catchers, Ioras and Golden Orioles were making merry on the Harad, while gorging on their morning feast. It was as though the universe deemed fit, for this ideal spot and moment to transmit my WOTY.
MY WOTY for 2021 was Aligned. Therefore, it isn’t surprising that my Aligned self wanted to now be in a state of Balance.
But wait, how did Flow join hands with Balanced?
A few days ago, I was chatting with my dear friend, Sheena how I came to choose Balanced as my WOTY. She went on to tell me how Flow had been her WOTY for some years now.
I have loved the word Flow, and have used it as a personal mantra as long as I can remember. It has such an unhindered, easy, non-restrictive, smooth feel to it. Sheena and I got discussing and I told her how when we are in flow, we align and balance with life.
Though till date she continues to believe that flow and balance don’t go hand in hand. 🙂 I totally believe so. And here’s why.
With Flow comes Alignment, and with Alignment comes Balance.
Thus, my WOTY Balanced Flow came into being.
I guess there was a reason why I had not written about my WOTY, in the first week of the year. It had to be a union of two unique words that resonated with my being. One birthed under a Harad Tree and the other on a video call with my dear friend.
WOTY 2022: Balanced Flow
Now that a spell of Balanced Flow has been cast on my being, here’s what these words will translate to:
1. To embrace whatever comes my way: Embrace without asking the whys and hows. To be in a state of balance that is fair and square, cool and collected amidst the storm. (Having said that – to still embrace a melt down, or not-so-balanced days if and when they happen, and accepting them as part of the Flow). We don’t question our joy and laughter, do we? Then why question those tears, melt-downs, or anxious days?
2. To relax and flow with the tide and see where it takes me: This would essentially mean letting go of control and resistance. Who are we to control? We don’t hold the reins! The universe devises its set of divine plans. We just have to watch and flow with the tide of life.
3. To be balanced in my being: This entails being aligned and balanced with my breath, my silent spaces, my health and fitness routine, spiritual and emotional world, my commitments towards writing and making a discipline out of it, where it translates to abundance and prosperity, balance me-time and family time, reading time and screen time, time spent amidst nature and tending to my plant babies and beings of the Earth. Also being in a state of nothingness – just being still and doing nothing – Niksen. I wrote about it in the link here. To blossom in fun, laughter and play and to not take life too seriously.
That’s the fabric of my WOTY, Balanced Flow which has cast a deep spell into my being, and is ready to turn the tide and unfold a whole new world.
Abracadabra is a beautiful word that translates to, “I create as I speak.”
Abracadabra to Balanced Flow!!!
So it is!!!

Yes, surrender and flow go hand in hand. It’s when we let go of control acknowledging that the universe /divine knows best.

I loved your word dear Shinj.
Super blessed it is!
How have you been? Love and hugs.
Hello again in this new year, dear friend.
Do you now what is strange? This morning I thought at this subject, the word for the year 2022, because from 2018 I did not choose any other than in 2017 which was ‘simplification’ and I still consider that this way is endless. But in this year I want to change it. Or add a new one!
Probably I’ll make a post with it, soon.
That tree seems so special and impressive. Something new for me.
Your word is so important and I am grateful that you shared it with us.
I feel that you are somehow transformed and you spread a kind of equilibrium. And it’s so good!
All the best dear Natasha! Be aligned in your balanced flow!
Love, light and laughter!❤️

Hello, dear Natasha! <3 I'm glad to see you! 🙂
I read with great pleasure the lines written by you and I dreamed a little under the Harad tree.
I believe that balance is the secret of a harmonious life in which we feel at peace with ourselves, with people, with the universe.
I wish you beautiful days!
Big hug!
Dear Dear Diana,
Biggest Hugs and Warm wishes for a brand new 2022. May it be blissful, peaceful and peppered with ample doses of laughter for you and yours.
Yes, balance is indeed the key to our peace and well being. Flow is must too, that’s when we let go, give in to the will of the universe, and stop fighting for whats not necessary.
Wishing you warm, cosy, bright days. It is very cold here. It must be freeing in Romania too I assume.
Stay safe, stay gorgeous.
Big love and big hugs. <3 <3
I like the idea of a word of the year. “Balanced Flow” seems to be where you are in your journey, so a fitting word(s). Hmm, perhaps for me, even though I am far from being young, I would say “Begin Again”. It is not a new beginning (I hope that happens in a few years when I retire 😉 ), it is just a shift of the gears and look at old pursuits with new (fresh?) eyes.
I hope you do have a wonderful year!
Fresh new eyes are always wonderful. We drop old patterns and make way for the new. That’s a great choice of words, Trent.
I wish you well in all your pursuits. May 2022 be blessed and beautiful.
Cheerio!
