Thank You, Babi: #WriteBravely

Thank You, Babi: #WriteBravely

My Dearest Babi,

I dedicate a few lines to you, on this monsoon day. The sun is playing a constant game of hide and seek, while the clouds outstretch their arms in a stoic cover of grey. The muggy air looks on undeterred as nature performs a spectacle of sorts.  It’s a good day to be thankful, for you should know how deeply indebted I am to you.

Babi, thank you for believing in me.

You gave my dreams wings, while I learned to fly.

You never insisted I pursue a fixed career choice,

For you knew that in writing and creativity my passions lie.

An acclaimed scientist, who never expected his daughter to follow his path,

For he knew that we all come with our chosen purpose and dreams.

You helped me find my strengths,

And chart my future and evolve in my preferred path.

As years dwindled by, the passion diluted to the quandaries of life and profession

But you always had faith in my capabilities,

Ever ready with your thoughts and suggestions.

I left my profession to pursue my calling,

In writing lay my purpose, my dream and my journey onwards.

The DH and you stood by my side rock solid, not for a moment failing me.

When I spiralled into a journey downward,

You picked me up and took my hand

You told me to never give up or give in.

From then onwards, my faith, courage and fortitude never left me,

As I decided to plunge myself into writing.

It became my driving force, my passion, my reason to wake up joyously each morning,

Making every single day count, simply through the power of my pen.

I never dreamt I’d publish two books in a span of ten months

But I very well did;

Though I never dedicated these books to you, but I’m grateful to you Babi.

Thank you Babi for believing in me,

Thank you for giving my sails a fresh lease of life.

As I inch closer to my destination, galloping on this stunning stallion,

I know the road ahead might be arduous,

I may falter and fall

But not without joy, passion and purpose coursing through my veins.

Thank you Babi for putting your faith in me.

I will forever be indebted to you.

Much, much love and pronams always,

Your darling daughter (as you have always called me),

  1. What a brave thing on your part, Natasha, to attempt to write such an amazing and touching ode to the love of your Babi in the form of poetry! I do not know of many people who would be able to do that! Loved the post and the affection you have for your dad just come through so beautifully. Magical feeling. Uncle must have been thrilled to read this, I’m sure.

  2. My dad is an acclaimed scientist as well, but I never had the inclination for the sciences. He always stood by me to support me in making my choices. When I didn’t perform too well in the commerce stream boards examination, he suggested to study literature as that was what I loved the most but I didn’t.(the reason is a long story, I shall keep it for some other day) Now after years of doing various things, I chose writing.
You have so beautifully expressed a daughter’s emotions. I felt I am saying this. I will share this link with my dad.

  3. A beautiful tribute to your father. Coincidetally I just penned a letter to my late mother and the next post I read was yours. I just that’s why it resonated a little more.

  4. this is a delight to read your ode to your babi. lovely lines.. especially “I know the road ahead might be arduous,I may falter and fallBut not without joy, passion and purpose coursing through my veins”.. Superb!
