– Vivian Amiss

I have been partaking the WOTY (Word of the Year) exercise for the past 3 years now. I am so grateful to Corinne for introducing me to this wonderful activity.

The WOTY works far better than making resolutions, which have a way of crashing mid-flight.

Having said that, it doesn’t stop me from goal setting. But having a Word of the Year really helps align the goals with the WOTY.

So without much ado, my WOTY as you all have figured out by now is “Aligned”.

It has taken me ample amount of time, and going back and forth to zero down on this precious word. It wasn’t a simple choice, and it took more time than usual to arrive and ‘align”! I had the same issue arriving at my WOTY 2019, “Breathe” when my dear friend, Damyanti came to my rescue.

Flashback into the Previous WOTYs

So here are my WOTYs from the past:

Nurture  for 2018

Breathe for 2019

Self-Love/Self-Care for 2020 (which I never got around to writing about, but managed to follow it to the T. Amen to that!)

In 2018 I managed to very successfully nurture a whole bunch of people, leaving aside myself. But that’s what the situation demanded of me, then. But I am grateful realisation dawned and I kept growing, in the years that followed.

I am glad that in 2019, I took time to focus and align with my breath, choosing Breathe as the WOTY.

This naturally had to be followed up with Self-Love/Self-Care in 2020, in the absence of which my cup was running empty. I have said this recently: Self-love taught me how to love myself and others unconditionally, irrespective of the flaws and judgements. I will continue to travel this path in 2021, as well. For a moment I did wish upon this word to be my WOTY again, but then I realised I would have ample scope to grow along side, if I choose to be aligned.

“Being aligned is not just energy and aligning with higher vibrations, but it is also aligning with your soul self. That is truly what being in alignment is.”

MY WOTY for 2021: “Aligned”

2020 has been a year of lessons aplenty, without which I wouldn’t be who I am in 2021! As I move forward into a new decade armed with all the learnings from the past, I realise it is absolutely pertinent to be aligned with oneself and these precious learnings.

Therefore, in this brand new year I choose to be aligned with the following:

1. My Soul journey and my True Self

2. Silences and Introspection

3. Gratitude and Love

4. Acceptance

5. The Flow of life however harsh the current maybe

6. Peacefulness

7. A Confetti of Kindness for every soul that I come across

8. Body (health goals), Soul (spiritual growth) and Mind (thoughts)

9. Breath

10. Responses

11. My Tribe of People

12. Writing, Work and Reading goals

13. Goals, Vision and Life purpose

14. Giving back to the world consistently

15. Joy

16. Nature

17. Universe

18. Present moment

19. Courage

20. Stillness and Being

Yes,  choosing “aligned’ as my WOTY is no mean feat. It encompasses multiple facets of life. Yet, at the same time I believe it is an empowering and grounding experience to go through.

How I Plan to Stay Aligned?

In order to be aligned, I will need to take charge, plan, goal set, implement, abide by a routine and delve deeper into myself. The current Ink Bucket Planner that I am using, is bound to come handy, like last year. I hope to be more regular with it, this time on.

I have already finished goal setting in the planner; goals that I hope to align with my WOTY.

“When the basis of your actions is inner alignment with the present moment, your actions become empowered with the intelligence of life itself.”

– Eckhart Tolle

This year I am also working with a habit tracker, which is part of the planner. I had completely ignored it last year. This year I plan to be regular. The habit tracker, I know will help me stay accountable and aligned to some of the above things I have listed.

You may wonder why I chose Aligned instead of Alignment. Well, I am already manifesting the word, therefore I prefer to use it in the past participle tense.

I am bringing down my screen time drastically. Easier said than done, given the fact that I work in the field of social media and content curation. Yet it is pretty much achievable.

To stay true to myself and to the above goals, my WOTY will come exceptionally handy.

I wish you all reading this a very precious and prosperous year of expansive horizons, exponential growth, and good health.

Do you have a WOTY for 2021? If not, do you think you will create one for yourself?

Tell me what is that one thought that you might choose to work with this year?

Would love to hear from you.

May you find your WOTY, and may it bring you all that you desire.

Love and Light! <3 <3

  1. I actually love that you described how you are planning to stay aligned. Habit tracking is a great activity. I haven’t done it yet but I have read only good things about it. Wish you good luck with your goals and vision 🙂

    1. That’s a beautiful word to work with Patrick. We need to surround ourselves with whatever little joy that we have and is given to us every moment.

  2. That’s a wonderful #WOTY Natasha so are the previous ones. Once you are aligned with your true self, everything else starts getting aligned. What a beautiful photo of the sun kissed trees. Are you back from the soulful break? Though I do not take part in WOTY, inspired by your post I think it would be ‘health’ for me. Targeting the ‘weighty’ issues
    Lots of love my dear

    1. Hi Chandra the thing is we had 3 Wednesdays last month so the prompt shifted to the 2nd this month!

See you next week. Wishing you a kind new 2021! ♥️

  3. Thank you for this post, dear Natasha. It is very serene.
I never thought of a „guiding word” at the beginning of the year. Today, however, two words remained in my mind, from the cartoon The Lion King: “hakuna matata”. Yes, there are two words, but express just one idea, I think.
    Have a wonderful 2021!
    Much love! ❤️
    Love and light!

  4. Natasha,

I don’t pick a WOTY but ‘align’ sounds like a good one. I think in the beginning of every new year I try to ‘align’ myself with my goals and plans, so this is really more a lifestyle for me. I think it’s important to be aligned all the time. Of course, realistically every person falls out of alignment due to circumstances preventing fulfillment. Best of luck using The Habit Tracker. We do need to be accountable to oneself so if this helps you then I say go for it! Here’s to 2021 being a much improved one over last year. Blessings and love to you, my friend!

  5. My dear Natasha,

You have chosen such beautiful words over the years. Aligned is a splendid word and I’m sure you’ll excel at everything that you set out to do. Since you are staying true to yourself, half the job the done <3

I might be inspired by you and choose 'Nurture' as my word this year. I'm still working on that though.

Wishing you a fabulous 2021, gorgeous!

    Much love! <3

  6. My WOTY is “Hopeful,” as MaryLou and I were able to get the COVID vaccine on January 2 after watching elderly people, some in wheelchairs and walkers, wait in line overnight. Many were sent away when vaccine supplies were exhausted. Our experience was enjoyably and seamlessly efficient. I had given up hope of traveling to Illinois for our grandaughter’s Quinceanera, which was first scheduled in 2020. Hoping that my body will react to the vaccine when I obtain the second dose after 28 days, maybe with a sore arm or headache and a bit of fever, as that would be a sign that my medications have not completely wiped out my immune system. Hoping to be able to see our 3 children, most of our eight grandchildren and maybe several great-grandchildren scattered about the country. (As a bonus, perhaps witnessing spring bird migration up north). Best wishes for a Happily Aligned New Year!
